American Postal Workers Union President Dimondstein ‘On The Dangers Of Mail Privatization’

In an interview with Mother Jones, American Postal Workers Union (APWU) President Mark Dimondstein spoke about how we must protect the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) from politically driven budget attacks. With Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Campaign hell-bent on slashing countless Federal services that Americans rely on, the United States Postal Service is once again facing threats from far-right corporate interests. Dimondstein pointed out that pushes to privatize the USPS are thinly veiled attempts to undermine a public good that transports essential mail - such as medicine and voter ballots, Union-bust Postal Workers and bulldoze the agency so that corporations can make a quick buck. “To me, DOGE is a question of Billionaire Oligarchs trying to figure out how to get more money into their private profits,” Dimondstein said. “So all of this stuff about efficiency is really a cover for that and that also carries over to those who want to privatize the Post Office, which takes in about ($80 billion) a year in revenue. Those on the private side of the industry want their hands on that money because when it’s in the public domain, they can’t use it to generate private profit.”
