(LATHAM, NEW YORK) - For the second consecutive year, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) Union is being nationally recognized as the top organization across the country for its contributions to the American Cancer Society’s 2024 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign.
The Statewide Teachers Union was represented by teams from every corner of New York State participating in Making Strides events this past year.
Together, they raised $773,358 - a $73,000 increase from the previous year - surpassing major companies including Walmart and Chevrolet.
Additionally in 2024, NYSUT increased its presence throughout the State with nearly 1,000 more registered participants than in 2023.
NYSUT Secretary-Treasurer J. Philippe Abraham, whose office coordinates the Union’s Social Justice initiatives, said: “From Buffalo to Brooklyn to Jones Beach, NYSUT Members came together to help fund the future of cancer research, patient support and advocacy. As Educators, our Members often see the far-reaching impacts of this disease within our schools. Their tireless tenacity year after year for finding a cure is a testament to their love and support for their students, colleagues and communities.”
NYSUT is a flagship sponsor of the annual Making Strides events and has raised more than $18.3 million for the cause since 2002.
