National Nurses United (NNU) Members who work at University Medical Center (UMC) in New Orleans staged a two-day Strike - ahead of Super Bowl LIX, which took place on Sunday (February 9th) - to call for the fair contract they deserve. This was the second work stoppage staged by the nearly 600-Member Unit as they continue to fight for a first contract with their employer, LCMC Health, since overwhelmingly voting to join NNU in December 2023. Their Union Siblings in the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) publicly supported NNU’s fight on Social Media, shaming management for locking out Nurses during Super Bowl Weekend. Kisha Montes, a Registered Nurse in UMC’s Behavioral Health Unit said: “We would rather be inside taking care of our patients than out on Strike, but management’s antics have left us feeling like we have no choice. We have to show them how committed we are to the fight for a fair contract. The last month has only demonstrated how urgent this is for us and our patients.”
