Delta Workers ‘Push For Vote’ To Form Union In Minnesota
Last weekend, Delta Air Lines Flight Attendants and Cargo Workers rallied in St. Paul, Minnesota as part of their push for a Union Election. In-flight Crew Members are organizing to join the Association of Flight Attendants-Communications Workers of America (AFA-CWA) while Ramp, Cargo and Tower Workers are seeking representation from the International Association of Machinists (IAM). Delta is the only U.S.-based carrier where Flight Attendants, Fleet Service and Mechanics do not have Union Representation. Only 20% of Delta Workers are Union Members. Colleen Schwartz, who’s on the Delta AFA-CWA Organizing Committee, had been a Union Member at a previous job. She said: “There’s a lot of differences, so I had much better health care at my last airline. I had much better work rules. The biggest difference is that we had a contract, so you know your executives have a contract, so why don’t I have a contract. My job is protected by a contract. Without Delta being Unionized, it’s just really holding everybody else back in the whole industry.”
