More Than 100 Labcorp Staff At Providence’s Portland Hospital In Oregon File For Union Election

More than 100 Labcorp Technicians serving Providence’s Portland Hospital have filed to join the Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (OFNHP)-American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Local 5017. Laboratory Professionals at the multi-national, for-profit company perform testing that Health Care Workers rely on to make diagnoses and treatment decisions. This Union Organizing Drive comes as Members of the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) are on Strike at multiple Providence Health facilities across the State. "We decided to Unionize because we want to ensure a stable, well-trained, well-staffed medical laboratory is available to our community. By Unionizing we can have a strong voice for our patients and ourselves, ensuring a positive future for health care in this region,” said Allister Brister-Smith, a Laboratory Services Team Lead.
