Costco Teamsters Authorize Nationwide Strike - Representing 18,000 Workers, Union Says 85% Of Its Members ‘Voted To Approve’ The Action
Alex Harring at CNBC reports the Teamsters, which represents 18,000 Costco Employees, have voted to authorize a Strike, paving the way for a work stoppage if the Union and the retailer do not reach an agreement. The Teamsters said 85% of its Members voted to approve the action. The current contract between the Teamsters and the wholesaler is set to expire on January 31st. "Costco's greedy executives have less than two weeks to do the right thing," Teamsters President Sean O'Brien said. "If they refuse, they'll have no one to blame but themselves when our Members go on Strike." The Teamsters have said Costco rejected a proposal and called Costco's counterproposal "insulting," noting that it did not reflect the company's "historic financial success" and offered no enhancement to retirement benefits.
