The New York United Teachers ‘Unveils Its Key Items’ In The Statewide Teachers’ Union’s 2025 State Legislative Agenda

(ALBANY, NEW YORK) – Just prior to Governor Kathy Hochul’s State of the State address, the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) previewed a list of key items from the Statewide Teachers’ Union’s 2025 Legislative Agenda.

Last year NYSUT’s advocacy achieved historic victories that included protecting school funding from proposed cuts, correcting the punitive APPR (Annual Professional Performance Review) System for Teacher evaluations, passing the biggest pension reform win in 20 years for Tier 6 Members, and creating a new State maximum temperature in school facilities.

In 2025, the nearly 700,000-Member Union plans to build upon those wins in collaboration with the Governor and the Union’s partners in the State Legislature.

NYSUT shares Governor Hochul’s vision to strengthen our schools with reasonable restrictions on student cellphone use, to expand free school meals to cover every child in New York, and to make New York affordable for Working Families, Union Representatives said.

NYSUT also plans to push for measures including, but not limited to: Updating the Foundation Aid formula to better serve students; Combatting the effects of child poverty; Investing in the State’s Public Institutions of Higher Education; Expanding Career and Technical Education programs through revised BOCES funding; and Supporting Educators who spend out-of-pocket on classroom expenses.
