Colleen Uechi at Maui Now reports United Nurses and Health Care Employees - the Union representing about 930 Employees of Maui Health, have approved a new four-year contract, with more than 90% in favor of the agreement. The deal will provide significant pay increases and requirements for safe levels of staffing, avoiding a Strike that could’ve sidelined hundreds of Staff at three critical hospitals. Hospital Operator Maui Health and United Nurses and Health Care Employees hammered out a tentative agreement in late December in the wake of a three-day Strike by Hospital Workers in November. More than 90% of Members who participated in the contract ratification vote cast their ballot in favor of the new agreement, it was reported. The Union represents 930 Employees at Maui Memorial, Kula Hospital and Lānaʻi Community Hospital, which is more than half of the more than 1,650 Employees who work for Maui Health.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Park City, Utah is calling on management to negotiate a new contract with the Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association, which is currently conducting an Unfair Labor Practices (ULP) Strike, reports Mya Constantino at FOX 13 in Salt Lake City. Since the Strike started on December 27th (2024), local businesses say they are noticing the adverse economic impact it's having on customers. Bartender Sydney Howell said: “Tourists are definitely upset. Every day people are coming in and complaining. I feel like it’s a lack of understanding of what’s been going on.” Union Members are asking for increased wages and benefits. They’ve been in a labor dispute with Vail Resorts since last year. Last week, the Union said a recent bargaining session was more productive than the last 10 months, but a fair contract had yet to be agreed on. Park City Mayor Nann Worel has issued a statement addressing the concerns of long-term impacts that the Strike could have on Park City's tourism economy. In it, the Mayor did not directly side with the striking Workers, but did say it's the company's responsibility to conclude negotiations and resolve the conflict.
