NYSNA-Represented Mount Sinai Nurses ‘Demand Management Pay Your Nurses”

(NEW YORK CITY) – New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA)-represented Nurses and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) employed at Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Morningside and West have been fighting for correct and full wages for more than a year now.  But despite winning their payroll arbitration, the issues have only gotten worse with the implementation of a new payroll system.  Now, as the discrepancies add up, Nurses have had enough.

Earlier this month, Nurses came together to deliver a petition with more than 900 signatures, making it clear they will no longer tolerate this treatment.

At Sinai Morningside, Nurses gathered inside the Payroll and Nursing Office to deliver the petition in a respectful way, but payroll representatives dismissed them, NYSNA said.

At Sinai West, the Payroll Office locked its doors and closed its windows, refusing to receive the petition from the Nurses, the Union said.

Nurses at both facilities then took to the hallway or the lobby to make their voices heard.

At a time when hospitals should be valuing their Health Care Workers, Nurses and NPs are ready to fight back to stop wage theft at Mount Sinai, Union Officials said.

Huge win for nurses at Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Morningside.

UPDATE: Within two weeks, Arbitrators awarded financial remedies of more than $1 million to Nurses who worked understaffed.

The Arbitration Awards amounted to $900,000 to Nurses in the Mount Sinai Hospital Emergency Department and more than $100,000 to ICU 7E Nurses at Mount Sinai Morningside.

These victories are a direct result of the great work Nurses did to record staffing issues, as well as their active participation in the arbitration process.

NYSNA Nurses are showing that when they take action to enforce a strong contract, they can hold hospitals accountable for chronic understaffing, NYSNA said.
