5,000 University Of California Workers Seek To ‘Go Union’
Dylan Winward at The Daily Bruin reports 5,000 University of California (UC) Workers have filed to form a new Union, which would represent Employees who work in the Financial Aid, Disability Services and Academic Achievement Counseling Offices across the UC. They would join the United Auto Workers (UAW), according to a press release from the Student Services & Advising Professionals at the UC. The UAW already represents Academic Student Employees, Graduate Student Researchers and Academic and Post-Doctoral Researchers across the UC through its 4811 Chapter. Sean Campbell, an Admissions and Recruitment Worker at UCLA, said in a video announcing the Union’s formation that he believes the arbitrary enforcement of University policies means Workers are not able to dictate their working conditions.
