Governor Hochul Proclaims November New York State Apprenticeship Month - New Campaign ‘Highlights Benefits Of Apprenticeships’ For New Yorkers, Effort Also Intends To Inform Students About ‘Quality, Debt-Free Training For The Careers Of Tomorrow’

(ALBANY, NEW YORK) - For the third consecutive year, Governor Kathy Hochul has proclaimed November New York State Apprenticeship Month as part of her continued support of this highly effective Workforce Development Model that is helping to prepare the next generation of New Yorkers for the careers of tomorrow.

As part of the announcement, the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) has launched a new public awareness campaign featuring Commissioner Roberta Reardon and New York State Education Commissioner Betty Rosa promoting Registered Apprenticeships as a form of Higher Education that is often debt-free.

NYSDOL is also working with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to promote and educate school districts about this positive pathway to gainful employment.

“New York State’s Apprenticeship Programs are a powerful pathway to success - offering New Yorkers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, earn a paycheck and build a career,” the Governor said. “We reaffirm our commitment to empowering the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in the jobs of tomorrow.  By expanding Apprenticeship opportunities, we are not only meeting the demands of our evolving workforce but also creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all New Yorkers.”

As part of Apprenticeship Month, the NYSDOL unveiled details of the 2024 New York State Apprenticeship Summit, which will take place on November 14th at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.

The summit will bring together Workforce Development Experts, Advocates and Stakeholders to collaborate on ways to expand diversity, address barriers and attract program sponsors to this form of higher education.

Registered Apprenticeships provide New Yorkers access to quality careers through on-the-job learning and supplemental classroom instruction.

Apprentices are able to bring home a paycheck to support themselves and their families, without the burden of student loan debt, State Officials said.
