UNITE HERE’s Culinary Union Announces Virgin Hotels Strike ‘Ahead Of’ Las Vegas Grand Prix - Work Stoppage Is Slated To Kick Off As 700 Hospitality Workers ‘Continue Pushing To Win A New’ Five-Year Contract

(LAS VEGAS, NEVADA) - UNITE HERE’s Culinary Union has called for a Strike beginning on Friday (November 15th) at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas to start a week before the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix begins.

The work stoppage is slated to kick off as 700 Hospitality Workers continue pushing to win a new five-year contract.

The Union-represented Workers have been working under an expired deal since June 2023.

Currently, the Hotel and Casino Resort is proposing an insulting $0 in wage increases for the first three years of the new agreement, UNITE HERE Representatives said.

With major events like the Grand Prix coming up soon, the Union is urging travelers to cancel their Virgin Las Vegas reservation, check out of the property and choose a Union accommodation to support the Strike - which will be the first for the Culinary Union in more than two decades.

“I am going on Strike because we need a better economic package,” said Pamela Holmes, a 15-year Member of the Culinary Union. “Virgin Las Vegas wants to give us zero wage increases for the first three years of the contract and we deserve more than zero.  Currently, I have to work multiple jobs to have extra money to pay all my bills.  One job should be enough at Virgin Las Vegas to support our families.  To customers, please support and join us on the Strike/Picket Line in our fight to win a fair Union contract.”
