Weill Cornell Workers Successfully ‘Go Union’ With The Transport Workers Union
(NEW YORK CITY) - The Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) has announced an organizing victory for Custodians, Housekeepers and Receiving Clerks employed at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City.
The Workers voted to form a Union with TWU Local 241 in an election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
The successful organizing effort, a joint project of TWU Local 241 and TWU International, means Workers at the medical facility will begin negotiating a first contract that provides economic benefits and security for Working Families.
“This is a great victory for Working Families in New York City,” TWU International President John Samuelsen said. “We are ready and excited to work with Weill Cornell Custodians, Housekeepers and Receiving Clerks to negotiate a first contract that improves the lives of Workers and their families.”
The successful election is the culmination of hard-fought organizing work by Local 241 and TWU International.
The TWU has a long history of organizing Workers in New York City, beginning with the Union’s founding in 1934.
“We are proud to represent Weill Cornell Workers as they negotiate their first contract. This organizing victory is a testament to what TWU Locals and the International can achieve when we coordinate effectively,” Local 241 President Alex Molina said.
TWU Local 241 represents Workers at Columbia University and other affiliated institutions in New York City.
