The 200,000-Member National Association Of Letter Carriers & The U.S. Postal Service Reach A Tentative Contract Agreement ‘That Includes Backdated Pay Raises & A Promise To Provide Workers With Air-Conditioned Trucks’

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the United States Postal Service (USPS) have reached tentative contract agreement for City Letter Carriers.

The agreement features backdated pay raises and a promise to provide Workers with air-conditioned trucks.

NALC represents some 200,000 Unionized Mail Carriers.

In accordance with Article 16 of the NALC Constitution, the agreement will be subject to ratification by a mail referendum vote by eligible NALC Members.

“After almost (20) months of tireless negotiations, we are pleased to reach a fair agreement that rewards our Members for their contributions to the Postal Service and their service to the American People,” NALC President Brian Renfroe said. “The NALC Executive Council will meet to discuss the tentative agreement.  All details of the agreement and upcoming informational rap sessions for Branch Leaders will be made available at that time.”

The new agreement runs through November 2026.

Letter Carriers have been working without a new contract since their old one expired in May 2023.

Since then, Mail Carriers continued working under the terms of the old contract.

NALC President Brian Renfroe told The Associated Press: “Both sides didn’t get everything they wanted.  But by bargaining in good faith, we ended with an agreement that meets our goals and rewards our Members.  To make that happen, the Postal Service had to recognize the contributions of Members to the Postal Service and the American People.”

Among other improvements, the deal increases the top pay and reduces the amount of time it takes new workers to reach that level, Renfroe said.

This is not a raise. This is breadcrumbs being thrown at Postal Workers - $116,000 a year is what a single person needs to live comfortably in my State. I max out in seven years at $84,000. That will be $36,000 less a year than what I need seven years from now. Imagine a Postal Worker living on that in L.A., Miami or NYC. This contract is a disgrace.
