IAM Leader Says Striking Boeing Workers ‘In For Long Haul After Pay Talks Collapse’
Allison Lampert and David Shepardson at Reuters reports the lead International Association of Machinists (IAM) Negotiator says the Union’s 33,000 Striking Members are prepared to wait out the Plane Manufacturer after pay talks collapsed. "We're in this for the long haul and our Members understand that," IAM District 751 President Jon Holden said in an interview with Reuters, adding Boeing offered only minor improvements before breaking off talks. The IAM says it has a strong fund to support paying Members $250 a week during the stoppage. The Strike began on September 13th. Boeing has been burning cash as it struggled to recover from a January mid-air panel blowout on a new plane that exposed weak safety protocols and spurred U.S. Regulators to curb its production.
