NYSNA-Represented Nurses Call On Albany Med To 'Stop Hiding' Staffing Crisis 'That Threatens' Patient Care
(ALBANY, NEW YORK) – New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA)-represented Nurses held a press conference Thursday (October 3rd) to sound the alarm on Albany Medical Center’s repeated violations of New York State’s Safe Staffing Law.
Albany Med has been cited for at least 50 violations that could put patient care at risk, Union Officials said.
Hospital Administrators are also hiding a report issued by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) on unsafe staffing at Albany Med, refusing to share the findings with NYSNA, its Member Nurses or the public.
NYSNA has had to take legal action to obtain the report, but the hospital is still keeping the report secret.
Hospital administrators canceled a Staffing Committee meeting they had reluctantly scheduled to discuss the report just days before the deadline, the Union said.
With the clock ticking on Albany Med’s 45-day deadline to share the report and create a plan to fix the staffing crisis with input from Front Line Nurses and Caregivers, NYSNA Nurses are speaking out and demanding Albany Med keep their agreement to meet with the Staffing Committee and protect quality care for Capital Region patients.
NYSNA represents more than 42,000 Members in New York State and is New York’s largest Union and Professional Association for Registered Nurses.
NYSNA is an affiliate of National Nurses United (NNU), the country's largest and fastest-growing Nurses’ Union with more than 225,000 Members nationwide.
