1199 Service Employees International Union-Represented Caregivers Employed At Three Anthony Jordan Health Center Sites In The Rochester Area Ratify New Three-Year Contract That Includes ‘More Than’ 12% Wage Increases

(ROCHESTER, NEW YORK) – More than 40 Clinic-based Health Care Workers represented by 1199 Service Employees International Union (SEIU) United Healthcare Workers East, the largest Health Care Workers Union in the country - who are employed at the Anthony Jordan Health Center, Jordan Health at Community Place and Jordan Health Link/WIC in the Rochester Region, have ratified a new three-year contract.

The agreement runs through December 31st, 2026.

A Federal Mediator from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS) was present during contract talks in an effort to help both sides reach an agreement.

Clinic-Based Health Care Workers had been fighting for living wages and quality benefits to help recruit and retain Workers to care for patients in the underserved Community of Rochester.

The deal includes Union recognition, wage increases, increases to vacation days and sick days, and fully paid health care benefits.

Workers won a 5% wage increase in the first year retroactive to date of expiration, 3.75% in the second year and 3.5% in the third year - totaling 12.25% across three years.

Furthermore, Clinic Employees who’ve worked more than 30 years will get an additional 2.5% wage increase for years of service

Caregivers also won increases in shift differential and will also have the option to use a vacation day to observe the Juneteenth Holiday.

Clinic based Workers also requested that FMCS offer a workshop on culture of respect for Workers and management.

Union Members at the three facilities work as Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Record Clerks, Building Service Workers, Interpreter Clerks, Nursing Assistants, Bilingual Outreach Workers, Bilingual School Health Assistants, Receiving/Purchasing Clerks, WIC Office Assistants, Receptionist/Appointment Operator Secretaries, WIC Office Assistants, Site Coordinators, Medical Records/Referral Clerks, Dental Assistants, Interpreter/Dental Assistants, Medical Assistants, WIC Certification Aides, Accounts Receivable Clerks, Billing Specialists, Financial Counselors/Billers, MIS Specialists, Computer System Technicians, Medical Records, Correspondence Technicians, Alcoholism Counselors, Breastfeeding Coordinators, Teen Outreach Counselors, HIV/PPC Counselors, Alcoholism Counselors, Dental Hygienists and HIV/PPC Case Managers.

The Workers’ previous contract had expired on December 31st, 2023, and Workers had been bargaining with management since mid-January (2024).

“With the amount of work that we do, we feel that this is a fair contract.  We won higher wages and kept our quality benefits so we can get more people to work here,” Receptionist/Scheduler Twanna Baxley said.

“We are glad that we were able to settle the contract because we have always been Union.  We have always had good wages and good health care and have always been represented by the Union.  In the next contract cycle, we will fight to bring those wages closer to other health centers for all jobs here,” Dental Assistant Maurice Myrick said.
