Strikes In San Francisco: 1,500-plus San Hotel Workers & 132 Members Of The San Francisco Symphony Walk The Picket Line For Better Wages & Working Conditions

Nearly 1,700 Workers in San Francisco are on Strike.  Noell Mateer at HotelDive reports more than 1,500 Hotel Workers walked off the job on Sunday (September 22nd) in the latest wave of Unite Here Member Strikes in the State of California.  The affected San Francisco Hotels are Grand Hyatt San Francisco Union Square, Hilton San Francisco Union Square and The Westin St. Francis.  There are now more than 2,200 Hotel Workers on Strike in California, including Workers at Hilton San Diego Bayfront, who walked off the job on September 1st and elected to Strike until their contract demands are met.  “I’m on Strike because I have to work two jobs to support my family,” Hilton San Francisco Union Square Housekeeper Jin Ling Xie said.  Meanwhile, KRON4 TV reports 132 Members of the San Francisco Symphony went on Strike late last week just 90 minutes before the long-awaited Verdi Requiem concert for what they say is a failure to reach a new contract for higher wages.  Contract negotiations were held between the 32 singing Chorus Members of the symphony, who are represented by the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA).  “All we’re asking for is fair pay,” one Union-represented Symphony Member said.
