$61 Million ‘Aimed At Expanding’ Technical Education & Apprenticeships In The State Of Pennsylvania
FOX 56 reports Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is highlighting investments into workforce development, job training and Apprenticeship programs. His Administration’s current budget calls for investments to help open doors for Pennsylvanians - including $61 million for career and technical education. The Governor has also approved more than 50 new Apprenticeship programs. "What I suggest we can all do better on is educating all contractors to utilize Building Trades Apprenticeship programs and encourage municipalities, school districts and all of the public to provide incentives or require the use of Class A Apprenticeship programs when bidding their construction projects," said Warren Faust, who serves as President of the NEPA Building and Construction Trades Council. SMART (Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation) Local 44 in Luzerne County is in the process of upgrading its training center, thanks to an economic development grant. Local 44 currently has 32 active Apprentices.
