The National AFL-CIO ‘Applauds’ Biden-Harris Executive Order That ‘Will Ensure New Jobs Have Strong Pro-Union Labor Standards’
(ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN) - President Joe Biden signed what the White House called a landmark Pro-Union Executive Order giving Workers more opportunities to join Unions.
While visiting United Association Plumbers Local 190’s Training Center Ann Arbor, Michigan on Friday (September 6th), Biden signed his Good Jobs Executive Order after delivering a ringing endorsement of the American Organized Labor Movement and denouncing what he called the "Union-Busting" record of Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump.
Under its provisions, all Federal Agencies are directed to adhere to a "clear list of Labor Standards" when awarding dollars for Government funded projects, including prioritizing those using Pro-Worker instruments such as Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), Community Benefits Agreements, Voluntary Union Recognition and neutrality with respect to Union Organizing.
National AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler issued the following statement regarding the Biden-Harris Administration’s new Executive Order:
This Executive Order continues the Biden-Harris record as the most Pro-Worker Administration in American History, as President Biden and Vice President Harris continue to fight to make sure that investments in our country create good-paying Union jobs with benefits that support our families and give us a path to the Middle Class.
By encouraging and supporting Project Labor Agreements, neutrality and Community Benefits Agreements, Collective Bargaining Rights and Prevailing Wage Protections, the Biden-Harris Administration is making sure that Working People are fairly paid and have a safe workplace and the free and fair opportunity to join a Union.
Union Labor is already building the industries of the future.
With this Biden-Harris Executive Order, Government Agencies can make sure Federal investments in everything from clean energy to semiconductors come with high labor standards for the benefit of Workers and taxpayers alike.
