College Faculty & Grad Student Unionization Are ‘On The Rise’
A new report from the National Center for the Study of Collective Bargaining in Higher Education and the Professions shows the number of Union-represented College Faculty and Graduate Student Workers has increased considerably over the past decade. The findings are based on data from 902 Higher Education Bargaining Units at both Public and Private Non-Profit Institutions. As of 2024, the total number of Union Faculty grew 7.5% from 2012. Additionally, this growth in Union Membership Density was accompanied by a 19% increase in the number of Collective Bargaining Units during the same period.
