More Than 800 Unionized University At Buffalo Resident Physicians Are On A Four-Day Strike ‘To Demand A Fair Contract That Address Their Concerns About Compensation, Benefits & Working Conditions’
(BUFFALO, NEW YORK) - More than 800 Union-represented Resident Physicians and Fellows at the University at Buffalo (UB) are currently on a four-day Strike – which began on Tuesday (September 3), as they fight for a fair contract that addresses their concerns about compensation, benefits and working conditions.
The Workers are represented by the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD).
After a year of negotiations, UB Residents are protesting the actions of the entities that control their salaries, benefits and working conditions in Buffalo – at Kaleida Health, at the Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) and at UB - for operating through a shell company, University Medical Resident Services (UMRS), and engaging in Unfair Labor Practices (ULPs), such as bargaining in bad faith and discriminating against residents for their Union participation, UAPD said.
The residents are seeking a contract that addresses their concerns and provides them with fair compensation, adequate benefits and a respectful working environment, Union Officials said.

The UAPD and its striking Members are also being supported by their Union Brothers and Sisters from the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), the Communications Workers of America (CWA), the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), 1199 Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the Teamsters and the United Auto Workers (UAW).

Union Strikers are walking the line outside Buffalo General Hospital, Oishei Children’s Hospital and the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center through Friday (September 6th).
