Washington, D.C. ‘Celebrates Its First-Ever’ Teacher Training Apprenticeship Program
Odyssey Fields at DC News Now reports on Washington, D.C. embarking on a new milestone by celebrating the Apprentices who’ve joined the Districts’ first-ever citywide Teacher Training Program. The newly-introduced Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s Apprenticeship in Teaching Program provides pathways for para-professionals and high school graduates to become certified Teachers in D.C.’s high-demand subject areas, including early childhood, elementary or special education. The program kicked off in Spring (2024) to guide future Teachers into their careers. During the 2024-25 school year, the District said 50 Apprentices will participate in hands-on learning while taking courses to obtain their Bachelor’s Degree from the University of the District of Columbia. Currently, Apprentices are working with 23 DC Public Schools and 27 Public Charter Local Education Agencies.
