White House Unveils $1.7 Billion ‘To Boost’ EV Production At U.S. Auto Factories
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The Biden-Harris Administration has announced it will allocate $1.7 billion to help convert closed-down or at-risk automotive manufacturing and assembly facilities to make electric and hybrid vehicles - a victory for both Workers and clean energy.
The plants selected by the Department of Energy (DOE) for funding - much of which comes from President Biden’s signature, landmark Inflation Reduction Act - are located across eight States and all of the facilities have Union workforces.
The DOE estimated this funding has the potential to create more than 2,900 new jobs while saving more than 15,000 Union positions that are at risk of being eliminated.
“Building a clean energy economy can and should be a win-win for Union Auto Workers and Automakers,” Biden said. “This investment will create thousands of good-paying, Union manufacturing jobs and retain even more - from Lansing, Michigan to Fort Valley, Georgia - by helping auto companies retool, reboot and rehire in the same factories and communities.”
