Workers At The Vera Institute Of Justice ‘Go Union,’ Announce Intent To Unionize With The UAW
(NEW YORK CITY) - An overwhelming majority of Staff employed at the Vera Institute of Justice in New York City have announced their intent to form a Union with United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2325.
"We share this news the same day that Vera Institute of Justice management laid off 16 Employees," Organizers said on their X (Twitter) account. "We condemn the layoffs and demand that management recognize our Union immediately so we can bargain over job transfers and recall rights for impacted Staff, as well as other protections. At Vera, we strive to end mass incarceration, protect Immigrants’ Rights and build safe, thriving, communities for all. As Employees dedicated to this mission, we believe that Vera staff deserve a Democratic and inclusive working environment that lives up to our core values of dignity and justice for all."
