KVAL-TV reports a $1.6 million grant will mean six new Firefighter Recruits for the Corvallis Fire Department.  Funding from the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries will allow the Department to launch a new paid Firefighter Apprentice Program.  Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Fulsher said the Department is "looking to increase diversity - Women, Veterans, people from Minority backgrounds."  The grant covers pay, benefits, training and equipment for the six recruits.  They'll start with a 16-week training academy before one-on-one work with the Department's career Firefighters.
