(EASTVALE, CALIFORNIA) – Thirty-four Workers employed at Shred-It in Eastvale, California have voted to join Teamsters Local 1932.

Shred-It Drivers, Dispatchers, Mechanics and Warehouse Workers organized with the Teamsters “to gain a voice at work, negotiate fair wages and improve benefits,” Union Officials said.

“We’re ready to negotiate a contract with guaranteed regular wage increases, protections against unfair treatment and a pension so we can retire in dignity,” said Carlos Ortiz, an eight-year Driver at Shred-It and a new Member of Local 1932. “Hopefully, Shred-It will negotiate in good faith.  If they try any more delay tactics, we’re ready to fight for what we deserve.”

Weeks before the election, the Workers delivered a petition to management signed by a super-majority and demanded Shred-It recognize their Union and begin negotiations immediately, but Shred-It refused to recognize Local 1932 as the Bargaining Representative and forced a Union Election with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

Shred-It used the six weeks before the vote to run an Anti-Union Campaign and attempted to mislead Workers about the benefits of becoming Teamsters.

Charles Love, a 13-year Shredding Specialist and a new Member of Local 1932, said: “These last six weeks, management has cared a lot about how we spend our money.  We’re looking forward to negotiating with management to make our routes safer, our hours more manageable, our wages livable and our health care affordable.  And, we can’t wait to be dues-paying Teamsters protected by a strong Teamster contract!”

Teamsters Local 1932 represents more than 14,000 Members employed throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties in California.
