Workers Employed At Kansas City Domestic Violence Shelter ‘Go Union,’ Become ‘First In The State Of Missouri To Unionize’
Savannah Hawley-Bates at KCUR 89.3/NPR In Kansas City, Missouri reports Social Work Staff employed at the Rose Brooks Center in Kansas City have voted to become the first Unionized Domestic Violence Shelter in the State of Missouri. More than two-thirds of eligible Workers at one of Kansas City’s largest and oldest shelters Unionized with the Laborers Local 955. The 45 Workers began their Union Campaign last year and petitioned to Unionize in April. Staffer Maret Miller said the Union effort began because shelter management did not respect Workers’ insights on how to improve shelter operations.
