(NEW YORK CITY) - After more than nine months of negotiations, 2,300 Resident Physicians and Fellows at the heart of patient care at NYC Health and Hospitals have reached a tentative contract agreement with the City, which they say will help protect the future of the largest public hospital system in the country.

There are historic wins in the deal between the City and Physicians, who are represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents-Service Employees International Union (CIR-SEIU), include pay on par with peers in Private Sector Safety Net Hospitals and increased annual investments in their Union Patient Care Trust Fund.  

The victory comes after months of actions to push Mayor Eric Adams to agree to a fair deal.

Throughout their fight, the CIR-represented Physicians received the support of their fellow H+H Workers, including New York State Nursing Association (NYSNA)-represented Nurses and Doctors Council Attending Physicians, and other large City Unions in the Public and Private Sector, including American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees District Council 37, the United Federation of Teachers and 1199 SEIU United Healthcare East.

Dozens of City and State Elected Officials also supported the Residents, with 60 signing onto a support letter, while six Community Boards across the City published their own letters in support.
