‘Glass Backwards’ - Cornell University ‘Comes Under Fire For Alleged Discrimination Against’ The Glaziers Union
Matt Dougherty at Ithaca.com reports the Glaziers Union has launched a campaign to bring public attention to what it describes as discriminatory practices by Cornell University against Union Glaziers. The Union, representing Architectural Glass and Metal Technicians, outlined the details of its grievances in a press release that sharply criticized Cornell University’s stance, calling it "GLASS-BACKWARDS." The Union also announced a series of informational rallies planned for the month of May. The Union asserts Cornell has treated Union Glaziers "like second-class citizens for decades." The release states while Cornell honors agreements with many other Unionized Building Trades, it steadfastly refuses to recognize the Glaziers Union. This refusal, according to the Union, has resulted in Cornell awarding contracts to Non-Union Glazing Contractors who lack crucial certifications.
