Unions & Advocacy Groups ‘Call For Congress To Pass Bold Tax Reform’
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - A coalition of more than 100 Labor Unions, Pro-Worker Advocacy Groups and Think Tanks have written to Congressional Leaders, urging them to fix the mistakes in the country’s tax code from former President Trump’s disastrous tax scam bill and make the rich pay their fair share.
In 2017, Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) made massive cuts to taxes on corporations and the rich, eroding critical revenue streams needed to fund important programs.
Working People were promised that these cuts would trickle down to their wallets, but the decrease in the corporate rate - which dropped from 35% to 21% - didn’t actually result in higher real wages for Workers.
At the end of 2025, several provisions of the TCJA are set to expire, so Unions and other allied groups are calling for a new tax code that will support Working Families and vulnerable community members.
Specifically, one that actually requires the wealthiest in our country to pay their fair share, that raises more revenue to reduce poverty and supports our country’s seniors, Veterans and people with disabilities, and that enables economic growth for all.
“The tax code is one of our most powerful tools to shape the economy. For too long, it has been slanted towards the wealthy and large corporations, and the economy and our country have suffered as a result,” read the joint letter. “The expiration of key provisions of the Trump Tax Bill in 2025 is a rare opportunity to correct the mistakes of the past, address long-standing problems with our tax code, and help produce an economy that works for all Americans.”
