The Retail Wholesale & Department Store Workers Union ‘Praises Decision’ After Several New York City Employers ‘Were Fined A Combined $2.5 Million For Labor Violations’

The Chief Leader reports the Retail Wholesale & Department Store Workers Union (RWDSU) is praising the decision to fine several major New York City employers - including Starbucks, Cava, and Burger King, for violating a number of City Labor Laws.  Those fined were issued a combined $2.5 million in fines and a total of 3,000 Workers will share in the award.  The companies were found by the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to have not complied with the City’s Fair Workweek and Paid Sick Leave Laws.  They must also pay more than $230,000 in civil penalties.  RWDSU President Stuart Appelbaum, who praised the decision, said the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection did the right thing by Workers by “holding these companies accountable under these laws.”
