Workers At Jersey City Construction Site Awarded $402,000 In Settlement
Ron Zeitlinger at The Jersey Journal reports the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) that has protested Unfair Labor Practices (ULPs) in Hudson County, New Jersey scored a major victory when 181 Workers employed on a Jersey City job site were awarded more than $402,000 in a settlement between the New Jersey State Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOL) and a Monmouth County company. The settlement with Concrete Rising includes what the DOL describes as a “landmark” compliance agreement involving a time-keeping system on all projects and an independent integrity monitor for 12 months to ensure the contractor is meeting the requirements of the agreement. LIUNA Vice President and Eastern Region Business Manager Mike Hellstrom said: “Through the enforcement of our State’s Labor Laws, the New Jersey DOL’s dedicated Staff have sent a message to bad employers everywhere - that their exploitation will not be tolerated and that New Jersey will protect Workers.”
