Boulder County Workers File For Union Recognition
(BOULDER COUNTY, COLORADO) – Workers employed at Colorado’s Boulder County have filed for a Union Election after legislation granting some County Workers the right to collectively bargain went into effect in 2023.
The Boulder County Employees Union (BCEU) is organizing with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and are hoping to address issues like high turnover rate and low pay.
Under Senate Bill 22-230, Employees of counties with a population of 7,500 or more in the State were granted the right to organize and join Collective Bargaining Units.
Just last month, Jefferson County Public Library Workers won their Union Election to form a Union with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 18 - the first in the State to organize under the Bill.
“As Boulder County Workers, we must have a say in decisions that shape our lives, as efforts to combat turnover and promote retention are crucial for stability,” Stavan Vanscoy, a Member of the BCEU Organizing Committee, said in a press release. “Upholding racial equity principles and ensuring fair wages and benefits are essential for a thriving community in Boulder County.”
