Marquette University Workers ‘Push To Form Union’
(MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN) - Workers at Marquette University have gone public with their intention to join United Campus Workers of Wisconsin, a wall-to-wall Union that includes Undergraduate and Graduate Student Workers, Adjunct and Non-Tenure Track Faculty and other University Staff.
Part of the Communications Workers of America’s (CWA’s) nationwide United Campus Workers Campaign, the Organizing Drive comes just weeks after Marquette Administration announced steep budget cuts.
In an open letter to the campus community, more than 130 Faculty Members placed blame for the financial crises squarely on mismanagement by Marquette leadership.
Workers are looking to secure agreements that provide benefits like better health care coverage, increased stipends for Graduate and International Student Workers, codified promotion and professional development structures, higher salaries and more.
“It’s time for Faculty, the Staff, the Student Workers who make this university great, to have a determinant voice in the future of our university,” said Grant Gosizk, a teaching assistant professor in the English Department who is in a non-tenure track position.
