(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - The International Association Of Machinists (IAM) has announced a remarkable achievement in its ongoing efforts to champion the cause of Workers across the Nation - a recent report, drawing on data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and analyzed by Bloomberg Law, has spotlighted the IAM for its significant growth in Union Membership over the last year.

In 2023, the IAM saw an increase in membership of more than 5%, welcoming 17,300 new members into its fold.

This growth is not just a number - it’s testament to the resilience, dedication and unity of IAM Members and Leadership in advocating for Workers’ Rights and better working conditions, Union Officials said.

“The IAM’s success over the past year is a direct result of strategic organizing efforts, effective bargaining and commitment to Worker solidarity and empowerment,” IAM International President Brian Bryant said.

“Our Members stand at the heart of our achievements and it is through our collective efforts that we continue to build a stronger, more inclusive Union for all Workers,” he said.

This achievement places IAM as the second-largest Union in terms of Membership percentage growth among the top 20 largest U.S. Unions in 2023.

This milestone is significant, demonstrating the potential for Unions to continue growing and influencing positive change, even amidst challenges, IAM Representatives said.

The increase in Membership comes at a time when the Labor Movement as a whole has shown signs of revitalization, with the number of Private Sector Union Workers growing by 191,000 to 7.4 million.

This resurgence underscores the critical role of Unions in advocating for fair wages, safe working conditions, and Workers’ Rights across industries, IAM Officials said.

“The IAM remains committed to advancing the rights and interests of our Members and Workers nationwide,” IAM Organizing Director Mike Evans said. “We are more motivated than ever to continue our work, ensuring that the voices of Workers are heard and that Labor remains a powerful force for change in the Twenty-First Century.”
