How The UAW ‘Is Winning Over New Plants,’ Starting With Volkswagen - A Victory At A Tennessee Factory ‘Would Be A Huge Boost To Reinvigorate The Iconic Union’
Josh Eidelson at Bloomberg reports the United Auto Workers (UAW) is on the cusp of a significant milestone in its audacious effort to grow by 150,000 people across 13 Automakers. A Volkswagen AG Factory is the next in line to vote on whether to become the only Foreign Commercial Carmaker Unionized in the U.S. It would also be the first Vehicle Plant to join the UAW since last Fall’s Strike led to record-breaking wage gains, giving the Union a key foothold in the South. “If the Union Movement is going to make a legitimate comeback, it’s going to be through these types of elections,” said Roger King, a Senior Labor and Employment Counsel for the HR Policy Association.
