New Amendment To New York State Labor Law ‘That Protects Rights Of Employees’ Social Media’

Megan Hatch at WWTI-TV In Watertown reports a new amendment to New York Labor Law has now gone into effect that will prohibit employers from requesting or requiring the log-in credentials of Employees’ Social Media accounts.  More than 20 States have adopted this legislation, including California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey.  However, Employers may continue to view information on an individual’s personal Social Media account that is publicly available.
