Unionized Reporters At The Democrat & Chronicle In Rochester Begin Strike In Contract Dispute
WXXI News reports Unionized Reporters represented by the Newspaper Guild of Rochester and who are employed at the Democrat & Chronicle have gone on Strike after being unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with the newspaper’s owner, Gannett. Reporters have been without a contract since 2019. A statement released by the Union on Saturday (April 6th) said Journalists are protesting “Unfair Labor Practices by Gannett” and are demanding a “living wage and basic protections on the job” - including protections from the misuse of Artificial Intelligence.
