The American Federation of Musicians Reaches Tentative Deal With The AMPTP - Union Leaders ‘Hail Pact as Watershed Moment for Artists’
Cynthia Littleton at Variety reports the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) has struck a tentative contract agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), reaching a deal that Union Leaders are hailing as “a watershed moment for Artists” that includes residuals for made-for-streaming content and protections against the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). “This agreement represents a major win for Musicians who have long been under-compensated for their work in the digital age,” said Tino Gagliardi, AFM’s International President and Chief Negotiator. The agreement was unanimously recommended by the AFM Negotiating Committee for approval by the Union’s Board. The contract will still need to be ratified by a vote of Union Members who work under its provisions.
