With The Super Bowl A Week Away, ATU Local 1637 Members In Las Vegas Authorize A Strike In A ‘Near-Unanimous’ Vote - Transit Workers Say ‘They're In Danger Daily, Seek Better Pay & Safety Standards’ In A New Contract

With the Super Bowl a week away, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1637 Members have voted to authorize a Strike as they seek better pay and safety standards in a new contract.  A majority of Transit Workers voted to Strike rather than accept the latest contract offer from Transdev, which runs Las Vegas’s Public Bus System for the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.  Local 1637 said 597 of its Members voted to reject the contract, with just four votes in favor.  Money is not the only issue as the Union says safety has become a major concern for many Bus Drivers.  Between March and September of last year, 17 violent incidents on buses were reported and the Union says those incidents are on the rise.
