Women In Skilled Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Program ‘Brings In More Sisters To Michigan IBEW Locals’

The Electrical Worker online focuses as spotlight on the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers’ (IBEW) 16-week Women In Skilled Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Program that’s bringing in more Sisters to Michigan’s IBEW Locals.  The Women in Skilled Trades initiative uses a multi-craft core curriculum from the North American Building Trades Unions, as well as a few other essentials, to give Women in Michigan a taste of the Trades.  "I'm very pleased with my choice," second-year Apprentice Qiana Moore -with Lansing Local 665, said of her decision to leave the Pharmaceutical Industry after 20 years. "I would have never considered the Trades if it wasn't for Women in Skilled Trades."  "We get a lot of Women who are interested in the Trades, but may not be sure which way to go," said Program Co-Founder Tori Menold. "We give them the ‘big-picture overview’ and hopefully by the end they can pick the Trade they want."
