‘After Threatening To Strike,’ 1,600 32BJ SEIU-Represented Building Cleaners In Connecticut ‘Score Big Wins’
Franklin Soults at People’s World reports 1,600 Members of Local 32BJ Service Employees International Union (SEIU) have reached a tentative contract agreement with an association of Connecticut’s largest Cleaning Companies. Pending a January 6th ratification vote, the new agreement with dozens of companies in the Connecticut Cleaning Contractors’ Association will provide those Union Workers with unprecedented wage increases over the course of four years - totaling between 15.9 and 17.7%, depending on where they work. Those Union Members clean about 90% of Hartford’s commercial buildings - 80% in New Haven. “We are proud of the historic tentative agreement we reached with the Contractors’ Association. We thank all the Elected Officials, Labor Organizations and community leaders who stood up publicly in support of Working People and we are hopeful that our members will choose to ratify the accord,” 32BJ SEIU Vice President Rochelle Palache said.
