500 Post-Doctoral Researchers Employed At Mount Sinai Hospital Reach Tentative Contract Agreement - Deal Gives Post-Docs ‘Highest Minimum Salary Of Any Post-Docs In The Country & Subsidized Housing Assurances’
Duncan Freeman at The Chief Leader reports that following a 12-day Strike and a year-long fight for a first contract, more than 500 Post-Doctoral Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai represented by the United Auto Workers have reached a tentative contract agreement with the hospital. The deal, announced by the Sinai Postdoctoral Organizing Committee, includes raises of 30% for the duration of the contract, six weeks of Parental Leave Benefits, three years of guaranteed subsidized housing and more. The deal gives Mount Sinai Post-Docs the highest minimum salary of any Post-Docs in the country - nearly $75,000 - a substantial raise from the $58,000 minimum salary in place since 2019. The Workers also are now explicitly guaranteed three years of housing - the first Post-Docs in the country to achieve such an assurance.
