Weill Cornell Postdocs Vote 98.8% To Unionize With The United Auto Workers

The ballots have been counted and the United Auto Workers (UAW) have announced Weill Cornell Medicine Post-Docs have voted by an overwhelming 98.8% to form their Union - Weill Cornell Medicine Post-Docs United-UAW.  The Post-Docs had filed paperwork with the National Labor Relations Board to form their Union in early October, with support cards from more than 80% of the proposed Unit.  Post-Doctoral Researchers have already earned their Ph.Ds and perform cutting edge research in labs at one of New York’s most prestigious research institutions.  The work they do leads to millions of dollars in grants for their employer and they make crucial contributions to public health, climate science and many other areas.  But without strong contracts, most struggle with low and inconsistent pay, high housing costs and a lack of stable benefits.
