(BUFFALO, NEW YORK) – A Member of Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1186 - an Employee of the Buffalo Sewer Authority, was fatally shot and two other CWA-represented/Sewer Authority Workers were wounded while driving a work vehicle on New York Interstate 190 in Buffalo.
New York State Police said Keyshawn Gault, 22, was fatally shot. The other victims who were taken to the Erie County Medical Center were the driver, Myron Walker, 30, and a passenger - Lamar Whitfield, Jr., 23.
All three were from Buffalo and were a part of the City of Buffalo’s Green Infrastructure Stewardship Program, which works to keep water clean, City Officials said.
CWA Local 1186 President Salvatore Falzone, whose Union represents 150 Members, issued the following statement: “Our Membership has suffered a tragic loss. While we are still mourning the unexpected passing of one of our Members just last week, our (Members) who were violently attacked while working are men who are loved and respected by their Co-Workers for their hard work and dedication to not only work, but to each other. The fact that they are so young is not to be overlooked either. As we continue to mourn the loss of one of our Members, we also look forward to a speedy recovery for our other Co-Workers. We stand ready and willing to support our Members and their families through this tragic time. We would like to thank Mayor Byron Brown, the Buffalo Police Department, the New York State (Police) Troopers, and the administration of the Buffalo Sewer Authority for their help in working with us throughout this.”
CWA District 1 Vice President Dennis Trainor also released a statement: “It is incomprehensible that Buffalo has again been affected by a senseless shooting. CWA will do everything in our power to support our Members who work for the Buffalo Sewer Authority including the victims and their families”.
According to Buffalo TV Station WIVB-TV, around 11:11 a.m. on Thursday (October 26th), the three Workers were traveling southbound in their vehicle on the 190, just south of the Peace Bridge, when their city pickup truck was shot at “multiple times,” State Police said.

As of Friday afternoon (October 27th), Walker was reported to be in stable condition with an injury to his knee cap.
Whitfield was listed in critical condition.
According to authorities, the city vehicle was shot at by a person in a late model, dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee that was also traveling southbound.
