Danville, Virginia ‘Launches First Registered EMT Apprenticeship Program In The State’

Charles Wilborn at The Danville Register & Bee reports two Danville groups have teamed together to launch the first registered EMT Apprenticeship Program in Virginia in an effort to recruit Emergency Services Workers.  The Institute for the Advanced Learning and Research and the Danville Life Saving Crew partnered to sign 13 people in an early October ceremony.  The Apprentices are fully employed with the Danville Life Saving Crew - a Non-Profit Rescue And Emergency Services Provider in Danville - and will work over the next few months to study for certification.  The one-year program will provide 2,000 hours of on-the-job training.  While the Apprentices are working for Emergency Medical Technician Certification form the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, they also will be going through a program to earn a Journey-Worker credential from the State Apprenticeship Agency.
