“They Kicked The Workers To The Curb Like Garbage” - 32BJ SEIU-Represented Cleaning Crew In New York City Fights New Landlord That ‘Exploited A Legal Loophole To Fire Them’
Max Parrott at LaborPress reports on 32BJ Service Employees International Union (SEIU)-represented Cleaning Workers who rallied outside the headquarters of a Real Estate Group last week where they were fired as soon as the new owner took over the lease of a Midtown Office Building. The Sioni Group left the six-Member Cleaning Crew suddenly without health benefits and a stable job. 32BJ SEIU has been fighting to get the Workers their jobs back, but the Sioni Group has so far refused to meet with them. “It’s just a terrible situation. It’s very wrong,” said Michael Delecce, one of the fired Workers who’s worked at the building for 19 years. “The new owner took over the building and the same day they took over, they kicked the Workers to the curb like garbage,” 32BJ SEIU Executive Vice President Denis Johnston said.
