Video Game Workers Are Now Voting ‘Whether To Strike Over Artificial Intelligence & Wages’ - SAG-AFTRA Says Video Game Companies ‘Have Not Addressed Adequate On-Set Protections Or Proper Regulations On Using AI’
Jules Roscoe at Vice reports Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists’ (SAG-AFTRA) National Board has unanimously voted to ask its Members to authorize a Strike against 10 Video Game Companies, saying that the companies had “failed to address” Members’ needs in relation to on-set protections, Artificial Intelligence (AI) regulations and proper wages during contract negotiations. The Strike Authorization Vote could open the door for a second simultaneous SAG-AFTRA Strike. The Video Game Industry agreement is separate from the film and TV studio agreements which Actors are currently striking against, but the issues on the table are similar: Improving Workers’ wages and securing protections against “unrestrained use of Artificial Intelligence,” according to the Union.
