Strike ‘Imminent’ At Children's Law Center In New York City - Union Membership ‘Has Been Attempting To Negotiate A First Contract For The Past 2.5 Years’
(NEW YORK CITY) – A Strike is said to be imminent at the Children’s Law Center in New York City after angry and frustrated Members of A Better Children’s Law Center/United Auto Workers (CLC/UAW) Local 2325 have been attempting to negotiate a first contract for the past 2.5 years, Union Officials said.
During that time, Workers at the Children’s Law Center say management has repeatedly engaged in bad faith bargaining - and most egregiously, CLC failed to provide a single salary counter over 831 days.
Earlie this week, CLC management proposed salary scales starting at $37,000 annually for some positions, said Union Officials, who added that “this is not a livable wage and unconscionable” in New York City’s Public Defender Sector.
After many escalating actions, A Better CLC Members voted 95% in favor of authorizing the CLC Bargaining Committee to call for a Strike - if necessary.
More than a month ago the CLC Bargaining Committee issued a Strike deadline of July 12th to management in hopes that management would seriously engage in negotiations.
Yet, management has continued to stall and stonewall at the table, Union Officials said, including refusing to move on their salary counter.
Following management’s failure to reach a deal earlier this week, A Better CLC decided to go on Strike - imminently.
